My relationship with yoga has always been a love/hate one. Loving the days where we focus on breathing and meditation, and hating the days where it felt like I was doing some kind of crazy flexible pilates. In my yoga journey, there have been numerous times where I have fallen off the bandwagon, but every time I slowly found my way back to the mat. Yoga has been my introduction to fitness and is slowly motivating me to get myself in shape. Every time I sit down for a session, I see myself getting stronger and more capable of doing the different poses (and holding downward dog for more than just a few seconds). So to incite inspiration in some of my BGH sisters, I thought I’d bring you my top 3 choices for yoga YouTubers that you’re going to love!
At-Home Yoga Practice
Before we get to the list I thought I’d mention my love for at home yoga. When I’m doing yoga at home I’m less worried about what I look like, and more eager to push myself. With that being said I understand how the lack of accountabilibuddies can make a yoga journey hard, yogi’s choice I presume, but now on to the list.
If you type in “Yoga”, she is one of the first names that comes up, and with good reason. Yoga with Adriene is my number one go-to for yoga, simply because she switches it up on you. In her infamous 30-day yoga bootcamp sessions, she slowly eases you into the practice and even cracks a joke here and there. Whenever I fall off the yoga bandwagon Yoga with Adriene is the channel I turn to.
This is a relatively new channel for me, but it’s definitely interesting. If you type in “African Yoga” she is one of the few people to come up. I haven’t personally tried African yoga yet, but I’m quite looking forward to it after I finish my bootcamp. She is a relatively new youtuber, and one of the few active black yoga instructors I can find. Hopefully if we show her some love, she will be here for the long haul.
I haven’t tried this channel personally, being childless myself, but i thought it would be a fun inclusion on this list as something yogi’s can do with their kids. Teaching our children a healthy lifestyle is becoming more and more important in our community and this might be a fun place to start. Her channel is filled with bright colors and fun names, and she might just tire your kids out enough so that they sit down somewhere for a few minutes (only if that interests you of course!)
So those are my top picks for my favorite yoga youtubers. If you’re really looking for something fun (sprinkled with a little black girl magic), you can try Trap Yoga as well. I couldn’t find a dedicated channel (sadly) but just type “Trap Yoga” into the youtube search bar, you wont be dissapointed.
And as always my beautiful black queens, don’t forget to live your best life!
