Simple Ways to Practice Seasonal Self-Love

As the seasons change, it’s no secret that sometimes your mood can too. Fluctuations in the weather might leave you looking forward to the holidays, while simultaneously dreading your upcoming busy schedule. Though it’s easy to let your calendar start to dictate the time you have to yourself, there are several simple ways you can practice seasonal self-love. If you’re already starting to feel like you need to fit in some you-time this fall, and in the months to come, consider the tips below on easy ways to do just that. 


Each upcoming month sparks numerous holiday activities to participate in, so determine what you’d love most to do and take action. Whether you go apple picking, carve pumpkins, or stay in and watch a spooky movie, take the time to love yourself by doing what you want to do most. Additionally, if there’s a holiday tradition you dread each year, it’s okay to say no. Part of loving yourself in every season is being a little selfish every once in a while, so don’t put yourself through something you don’t enjoy year after year. 


With every new season comes exciting seasonal styles and decorations. If you’re someone who enjoys getting into the spirit of the holidays with a new look for your wardrobe or for your home, take the opportunity to shop. Retail therapy is always a great way to show yourself a little extra love by splurging every once and a while. Whether you’ve had your eye on a new Coach purse you know you’ll admire every day or you’ve been waiting to find the perfect belt, fall is a great time to shop. Since most of us can’t always afford to ball out every season on ourselves, look for ways to get all of your favorite high-quality items for less. Get creative with your shopping by browsing secondhand Coach products online, allowing you to have the luxury to love yourself for less. Or, look for a local thrift shop to see if you can find a vintage belt look-alike. Shopping within your means is a great way to practice self-love while avoiding money stressors in the long run. 


A huge part of self-love is a reflection. No matter what season of life you’re in both mentally and physically, reflecting on who you’ve been and who you are now is a big step in the right direction. Whether you spend some time meditating or journaling, set aside some moments to look back on where you were during this same season last year. Write down the ways in which you’ve grown for the better, along with the things you know you might need to work on. Reflection is a great way to learn to love yourself through all the seasons of your life, both good and bad. 

Challenge Yourself

Every season presents new obstacles and challenges in both our work and personal lives. A great way to show yourself some love continually is to challenge yourself. Push yourself out of your comfort zone to experience new things that you may have previously been too shy to try. From attending a dreaded karaoke night with coworkers to finally taking that solo trip you’ve been skeptical about, it’s important to give new things a try. You might just discover some new things to love about yourself that you didn’t know were there before. 

Never Compare

During the changing seasons, you’re more than likely to see a spike in the number of your friend’s posts on social media. When this happens, it’s important to always remember that comparison will get you nowhere on your journey to self-love. Though it might appear that everyone is going out and participating in more holiday activities than you, it’s probably not the case. Try to cherish the special moments you’re making during this time of year as opposed to worrying about what everyone else might be doing. Instead, allow your friend’s posts to inspire you the next time you’re wondering what to do on a free weekend.
