3 Races that Will Help You Get in Shape and Increase Your Endurance

The secret behind races

Most people dread the idea of running either a 5K or a 10K. However, running is one of the best ways to get in shape fast and easy. Instead of rushing to a gym on the weekends, try participating in a race. When competing in a race, you will be more focused on finishing and not realizing you’re completing a workout for the day. So, would you rather go to the gym or participate in a fun workout activity? I don’t know about you, but I rather run a race any day over going to the gym.

I felt super strong yesterday…so much so that I did almost 2 extra miles off course during the race and was forced to DNF at 25 miles– dude, that's like 6 miles short from the finish.  And I had the audacity to be feeling good energy wise which annoyed me.  Long story short, don't drink the koolsid and second guess if you're in the wrong direction if you no longer see no markers, even when your bike bae (aka course sweeper) won't admit that he's lost too. Nevertheless, I'm not heartbroken – although a lot of y'all were mad AF for me because of the circumstances –  I'm bringing my hardheaded ass back to the trails for my 10K because Brooklyn don't budge or buckle easy. And yes, I have my favorite enabler with me.  Wish me luck… I'm not getting lost today.  Believe that! #runningfatchef #fatrunner #raceday #runner #running #fitnessmotivation #fitmom #fitness #skirtsports #REALwomenmove #swiftwick #chaseadventure #doyouevenlift #timetofly #skratchambassador #blackgirlmagic #blackgirlsrun

Here are 3 races that will help you get in shape and increase your endurance

  1. 5K – this race consists of a three-mile run. The majority of people finish running/walking three miles in under an hour. It’s a quick way to get a workout in and you can go at your own pace.
  2. 10K – this race consists of a six-mile run. The majority of people finish this race in 2 hours or less. Whether you choose to run or walk, this is another easy way to get your steps in for the day.
  3. Spartan Race – Spartan races occur several times a year around the world, so you can easily look for one near you. This race consists of numerous obstacle courses and in between each course, you’re running to the next one. It pushes you to never give up and you will be determined to finish. Aside from this being a cardio workout, it’s a great strength training workout because of having to complete each course.

Key Takeaway

Get up and get moving! You have to compete to win, so stop dreading the long gym workouts and get out there and run, walk and interact with more people like you. Your body will thank you!
