Whether it be happy hour during the week or celebrating a special moment or holiday, the drinks are always flowing. When you are watching your weight, or trying to lose it, cocktails should not be an exception to your diet.
Many of us think since it’s not a solid food, you don’t have to worry about alcohol adding on extra pounds, WRONG! Actually, alcohol consumption could be the reason you are not losing or continuing to gain, especially if you are overindulging or drinking sugary drinks. Cocktails can be considered empty calories, these are calories that add little or no nutritional value.
According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, participants who consumed less than an ounce of alcohol over a 30-minute time period reduced their body’s ability to burn fat by 73 percent. Dailyburn.com created a GREAT chart which lists the calorie intake for different cocktails and other alcoholic beverages.
