How Janelle Monae Keeps Her Natural Glow

Recently, the world has been taken by storm with the release of the phenomenal movie “Hidden Figures”, which depicts the story of three African American women that assisted NASA with its first journey to the moon. With the movie’s world success, it’s only fitting that we name Janelle Monae as this week’s #wcw.

Known for her individualism and refusal of societal conformity, Janelle Monae has inspired many young black women around the world to be their authentic selves. Her grace and beauty has been admired among millions around the world. And her many recent red carpet appearances have us falling in love all over again. If there’s one thing that we admire most about Janelle Monae–besides her flawless natural hair styles–it’s her natural beautiful glow. Her melanin is always poppin and we had to know why.

When asked by Glamour how she keeps such a beautiful glow she replied “I won’t sit here and say I’ve never had a pimple, but I try to have a really great diet, you know, lots of vegetables and fish. And I think stress plays a huge part too. I’m a believer that the more I’m giving, the happier I am, and the more beautiful my exterior will be.” When she travels on the road she is even more cautious about her diet. She eats mostly salads and snacks on pita chips and hummus. Since, she is a dancer most of her daily exercise comes from practicing and performing, which she likes to think of as her 90-minute workout. Monae is also known for her creative hair do’s. She has stated that when she was 18 she decided to go natural and never looked back. She also always does her own hair so that no one can steal her “Janelle Monae” style. The sky is definitely the limit for this beauty!
