Healthy Post-Workout Habits

Healthy Post-Workout Habits

Hydration and nutrition are key healthy post workout habits. If you skip too many post-workout snacks you could wind up further from your goals.

If you’re not eating after your workout you may be sabotaging your goals. Experts find replenishing the body with what’s its lost through lifting heavy weights and sweating brings positive health benefits.

Because exercise uses up your body’s available energy it should be refueled within 30 minutes of your workout. Food contains electrolytes, the necessary minerals needed to keep muscle nerves firing correctly. Carbs and protein will restore your energy and repair micro damage done to your muscles during exercise. If you’ve had a particularly sweaty workout replacing calcium, salt and potassium is very important. The most important thing to replace in your body post workout however is water. It’s a must that you rehydrate by replenishing any water you lost through sweating.

Failing to refuel after a workout can result in overuse injuries, fatigue, disorientation from low blood sugar and dehydration. Try packing post workout snacks to stay in line with achieving your fitness goals.
