Go the Distance with Your Health like Olympic Medalist Hyleas Fountain

Our #wcw this week is Olympic medalist, Hyleas Fountain. Known as one of the most talented heptathletes in the country, Fountain knows a thing or two about going the distance. And, even though most of us aren’t training to compete in Olympic events, we all can relate to the challenges that come along when you’re in the race to take charge of your health.

With a track record that includes accolades the likes of Hyleas Fountain, being healthy is just a part of life. But, for the rest of us, in order to go the distance that staying fit, eating well, and taking care of our bodies requires, we have to be intentional. And, according to Fountain, it all starts with approaching being healthy as a way of life. When you make commitment to a healthy lifestyle instead of just focusing on each component, you have the best foundation to make the lifelong changes you need.

Once you’ve changed your mindset, Hyleas says that you need to take care of yourself first. Like so many women, we’re always taking care of others. Whether that’s in our roles as mothers, wives, daughters, or even in our careers. By nature, we are nurturing, which is good, but it starts with you. Take care of yourself so you can take care of the ones you love.

Next, Fountain pays close attention to her families health and you should too. Knowing your health history can help you take a proactive approach to your health. Being aware of the illnesses or diseases that have affected those closest to you, allows you identify precautions you should be taking in your own life.

And finally, treat yourself, don’t cheat yourself. So we know that many fitness “gurus” and health nuts like to tell you it’s all or nothing, but it’s time to change that outlook. For Hyleas, she gives herself one cheat a day week to have a little sugar, spice, and everything nice. Allowing yourself room for small indulges from time to time is a great way to stay on track. Remember, good health is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself!
