How to Eat Healthy on the Go

As busy women holding down careers, side hustles, families, and passions, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and find ourselves in the familiar cycle of eating whatever is quick and available to us. Unfortunately, most times that means instead of try to eat healthy, we eat foods that aren’t exactly the best for us. Even though our daily schedules aren’t likely to change, that doesn’t mean we have to be stuck eating the wrong foods. With a little preparation and some quick thinking, you can make healthy choices on the go.

  1. Eat breakfast. I know, I know, this sounds really cliche but starting off your day with a healthy breakfast that you make BEFORE you leave the house can really set the tone of your day. You don’t have to create a big spread but easy things like smoothies packed with greens and seeds like chia or flax are great healthy choices that will fill you up. If you prefer something warmer avocado toast or oatmeal are other quick and easy ways to get a good meal in before you head out the door. It’s extremely easy to go crazy at lunch time with the food and snacks if you’re going in on an empty stomach.
  2. Always have snacks with you. You know how easy it is to grab whatever it is you can find to eat when you’re super hungry? You’re less likely to scope out some healthier alternatives if it’s 2:00pm and all you had was a cup of coffee so far. Keeping healthy snacks on hand at all times is a great way to curb the cravings and give yourself some breathing room while you find a healthy option to eat. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts are the perfect snack to pop in your bag and go.
  3. Keep a water bottle on hand as well. We all know the importance of getting a sufficient daily water intake but, water is also a great way to curb those cravings. Try infusing your favorite water bottle with some frozen fruit or lemon to give it a bit of flavor and drink it often. This can give you some time to make it to your favorite healthy lunch spot, hold the cravings at bay, and keep you hydrated at the same time!
  4. Know where and what to eat on the go. Even if you’re doing everything right, there’s always the chance that you might find yourself starving with only a few options in sight. Knowing what to eat when you have no choice but to head to the closest restaurant can help you make the best of the situation at hand. If you’re at a fast food place, ditch the fries and go for a side salad or a yogurt. Get the whole wheat bread options if they’re available, and opt for the grilled chicken instead of crispy. And remember to grab a water for your beverage!
