It’s Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week! So what does that mean for you? If you’re a parent, older sibling or aunt you should be concerned about the mental health of the children in your life. Once a child develops a mental illness, adults can often adopt their perception of the child’s mental illness as their normal behavior. This makes it difficult to recognize when the child has a serious problem. A few signs of a possible issue of mental illness in children include:
- Changes in Appetite or Sleep Patterns
- Self Destructive or Self Harming Behaviors
- Withdrawal or Fear of Things He or She Were Not Afraid of or Enjoyed Before
It is extremely important to pay close attention to the children in your life. They don’t always recognize the changes in their behaviors and therefore can’t and don’t always ask for help.
