DON’T BE AFRAID TO SET YOUR OWN TREND

Good, bad, or indifferent, we are all products of our environment to some extent. Often times our unique style is derived from our environment, family upbringing, and of course our own inner trend setter! I am proud to say that not I, but many of my clients, friends, and extended family embody the spirit of my home city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A little retro, urban, classy, and even daring… Harrisburg has it all, from the natural mahogany sistas that rock a beautiful coifed updo (with a beat face to match!), to those rocking 30 inches of long Peruvian with stroll-stopping frames, that make even those with 20/20 vision double take. I love my city and the beat we march to as well. It advocates for the...

MISS BLACK NEW YORK GOES NATURAL

For the past 16 months I've been transitioning from relaxed hair to natural, and I've been doing so without weaves. While I've had set backs I've also had great results and learned important tips along the way. I've learned that the key to healthy hair and growth is Moisturize Moisturize Moisturize! However moisturizing isn't enough, you have to lock it in by using a sealing agent like thick oil (organic preferred). MY NATURAL HAIR TREATMENT STEPS Part hair into 4 sections. Apply generous amount of moisturizer of your choice (I use Cantu Shea Butter leave in conditioner). After applying moisturizer to all 4 sections apply a thick oil to each section going root to tip (I use Jamaican Black castor oil). Comb each section out with a wide tooth comb...

Seasonal Nail Lacquer (Colors)

It’s Time to trade those bright-summer shades in for some fall shades. Much like the fashion industry the color palette changes with the seasons. Spring and summer shades are bright, whereas autumn and winter shades are a little on the dark side. Ideas for colors for autumn would be: deep shades of Reds, Blues, Purples, Browns, Greens, and last but, not least my favorite Nudes. Depending on your preference, dark shades of orange and yellow fit well in the autumn color shades. Lastly, I cannot forget about the basic black and white they go well with any season and are bold, but yet so simple to the naked eye. I’m not saying that you cannot wear other color polishes from other seasons during the fall, but if...
