HOW COMMON ARE FIBROIDS?

Let us break it down to the basics.  What is a fibroid? A uterine fibroid consists of smooth muscle and other tissue that develops and grows in the wall of the uterus, or womb.  They may occur as a single growth or in a cluster.  Fibroid size can vary from the size of pea to a marble, or larger than a baseball. Once a fibroid appears, its growth is related to primarily estrogen, progesterone, and possibly other hormones.  In addition, the rate of growth varies among women.  This makes it difficult to predict a fibroid’s future growth. I'm from Prince George County Maryland. First I want to say that I come from a household with a lot of southern hospitality influence. My mother is from Emporia, Virginia (the south); with that being said we always ate big at my house. Our dinner consisted of fried chicken, collards greens, corn bread, barbecue, and you name it. It surely did have a great impact on what I thought was appropriate to eat and how to eat. In middle school I had a health scare that I could have been diabetic. My parents were so terrified for my health they immediately changed the way we ate at home. From that point on my snacks were regulated, I had time scheduled meals, and daily exercise. I must...
