TIME TO GET YOUR ABS TIGHT FOR SUMMER

Here we are just a few months away from swim suit season, here's a great exercise to get your six pack ready for the summer! Grab an exercise ball and get to work. Place your legs on the ball, hands shoulder width apart on the floor, pull your abdominal muscles towards your spine and begin to draw the ball towards you with your legs, trying to isolate your core as you draw the ball towards you.  If keeping the legs straight is too difficult, bend your knees and draw the ball in towards you bending your knees.  For the advanced ball pikes add a shoulder press.  Perform 4 sets of 10 repetitions each set.  This exercise although for core, will engage your entire body! As always if...

THE PERFECT LIP FOR YOUR SKIN TONE

We already know makeup enhances those beautiful features you already have. Sealing with a perfected lip is one of the most underestimated yet powerful sources of pulling a look together. However we find ourselves staring at shelves of endless choices and often choosing colors/shades that aren't necessarily conducive to our skin tones. I cannot stress enough not all colors/shades are universal. Your skin tone is the determining factor of what compliments you and provides you with that wow factor. Complexions run in warms, neutrals and cools, however you want to focus more on the depth of the hue to truly compliment your skin tone. Fair skin tones, for reds go with blue undertones, pinks you want to stick to your lighter more beige undertones and for your...

The benefits of water in healthy nails

How much water do you drink a day? If it is not at least an 8- ounce glass, then you are not drinking enough. The average adult body is made up of 50-75% water. Nails need plenty of water to stay strong and healthy. Without plenty of water your nails can become brittle and dry. During certain seasons such as winter and summer you should drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Certain seasons such as winter and summer can make your skin and nails become dry and brittle due to lack of water in your body. CRYSTAL REDUCES PAIN AND INCREASE ENERGY

Crystals have been worn and used for numerous reasons over thousands of years. The tradition and knowledge has bled over into modern times and is blooming. Though, many people are unaware of their many traits and benefits.  Crystals (or rocks, gems, minerals) have within their structure, moving particles called atoms. You may remember that atoms are the same particles that make up every living and non-living thing in the universe. These moving atoms cause small, but mighty vibrations. These vibrations affect the vibrations inside you in thousands of ways, very much similar to how music affects you. They can essentially alter your energy fields (chakras) in the same way. If your energy is vibrating at energy or body is vibrating at any given frequency (measurement of vibration), a given crystal can...

FROM BOOT CAMPS TO BEAUTY PAGEANTS- MISS BLACK USA JASMIN ALEXANDER TELLS HER STORY

Being apart of the military was never my initial plan. To be honest I hated the thought of going into such a structured environment, however my father stressed the benefit of getting a scholarship and having a stipend every month. In order to remain independent and support myself I joined ROTC and I  was commissioned as an officer in May 2010. Being in the military can have its own set of struggles and demands. I’ve learned to try not to stress over the little things and take time to pamper myself, whether it’s a pedicure, massage, or simply taking a hot bath after a long day. As far as pageants, I guess you can say I've been a "beauty queen" since I was in elementary school. I...

#BlackLoveMatters

"There are more funerals than weddings," my grandmother said as I sat with her at her dining room table. We were discussing the fact that there was a high rate of black-on-black crime and very low rates of the ultimate testament of black love -- marriage. My grandmother and my grandfather had been married for close to 50 years. Their union was emblematic of the times. However, those times are long gone. According to a 2012 analysis of Census data by the Pew Research Center, 1 in 5 adults aged 25 and older (about 42 million people) had never been married, compared to 1 in 10 adults in 1960. The Pew analysis found that men were more likely than women to have never been married (23 percent vs. 17 percent...
