‘YOUR DRY SCALP MAY ACTUALLY BE YEAST’

Does your scalp look dry despite using a lot of moisturizers, hot oil treatments, and whatever other hair remedies?  You may actually have DANDRUFF or in our medical fancy terms, ‘SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS’. Your scalp may not be dry from lack of moisture but, it is actually flaking off from the Pityrosporum yeast.  Don’t worry many of us get this condition, especially if the scalp is not washed frequently, especially with the extra hair oils, which can worsen yeast over-growth. Often, we fear that if we wash too much, our hair will get too dry. But, stop to think…. scalp is skin that is connected to the back of your neck and face every day.  So, why do you wait to ‘wash the skin above the back...

3 TIPS ON HOW TO PROTECT YOUR HAIR FROM SUMMER RAYS

Soaking up sun, exploring, and max'n and relax'n is what summer is all about. While you may love all these things about summer and more, your hair may feel differently. Harsh summer rays damage your hair and dry it out. Here are some tips to keep your hair moisturized throughout the summer. Use water based products. They are lightweight and a great summer go-to especially if you do wash-n-go's. Air dry your hair. Some days it's hot as fish grease outside. That along with the heat of a blow dryer at 450 degrees can sizzle away hairs nutrients and life. Air drying your hair allows moisture to stay inside your hair longer. Pair your products. If one product isn't keeping hair moisturized enough, layer it with another product...

DON’T WAIT TO EXHALE

What does "letting go" mean? In yoga we "let go what doesn't serve you". This means that any pent up aggressions, self-demeaning thoughts, people that have hurt you, bills you might be late on, work that needs done, all of that crap ceases to exist. I recently visited a place that held a lot of emotions for me of not just growth and new experiences, but of lost love, sadness, and guilt. I needed to let it all go, to STOP holding onto it in order to regain pieces of myself that I had given away. Have you ever felt like this? Have you ever wondered how you'll ever feel "whole" again? Get comfortable (outside in nature if able). Fill your whole mouth with air: under your...

AFRO PUFFS THAT ARE TRENDING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The last 2 years have certainly been a flashback to the 1970’s when afros were all the rage. Many celebrities have been rockin afros well, like Solange Knowles, Erica Badu, Teyanna Taylor, and Tracee Ellis Ross, believe me the list goes on. African American women are once again embracing their natural hair roots, while setting trends. It has become so popular it seems like relaxed hair dos are starting to fade. Girls are rocking afros with all sorts of textures; everything from kinky, wavy, to curly. It seems like the natural hair movement has even taken over social media. There are dozens of natural hair groups and social media brands like “CoCo & Curls” founded by Alana Cornish, that are encouraging women to embrace their natural-self....

HOW TO HEAL FROM THE PAIN OF LONELINESS

For years I struggled with loneliness. I had difficulty finding my self -worth. My confidence was low and I felt as if I didn't recognize the girl in the mirror. My mentor gave me homework. He told me to follow a similar version of the following 5 steps to begin and stay on the path of awareness and acceptance. Stretch out all the kinks in your muscles so that you're able to sit for the next 15-20 minutes Sit in front of a mirror, lighting well enough to see your eyes Close your eyes tightly and take 10 deep breathes to calm and center yourself, getting rid of all distracting thoughts Open your eyes and stare into them and speak the following ALOUD...
