Testing Testing 1,2,3: Where can I get tested? | HIV/AIDS awareness

There is so much information out there about HIV these days, thats its crazy how many people still don’t know their HIV/AIDS status. The CDC says that 1 in 7 people infected don't even know it, which is even crazier. The only way possible that they wouldn’t know they’re infected is if they aren’t getting tested on a regular basis. (Check out my last post here on how often you should be getting tested for HIV). Getting tested on a regular basis is not that difficult, and isn’t expensive either. If you are in an urban area, there are plenty of places that can help get tested, and often times you can just walk in without an appointment. What If I don’t have Health Insurance? Well first...

Hey there sis! I hope your 2019 is going well so far. We are all out here striving for our new year's resolutions, and pushing ourselves to achieve more than we did in the previous year. We know that black women are actually less often diagnosed with common mental disorders like depression, but something called Superwoman Syndrome, is affecting us in a big way. Its something thats so ingrained in us that we don’t even realize it’s a disorder, and how its affecting our lives. Well today I’m here to spill the tea on superwoman syndrome and my struggles with it. What is superwoman...

HIV/AIDS Awareness| How often should I get tested?

I would like to first take a second to say that you don’t have to wait until something seems wrong to go get tested. Lots of women these days think “ I don’t want to be seen coming out of a clinic”, and if this is you sis, that’s just childish. If someone does say something about you coming out of a clinic, you’ll either have proof of negative results, or you’ll have a much bigger problem to worry about. Either way it’s a good thing you went to the clinic. However, since you’re reading this, I can tell you either live a health focused life or have at least abandoned that aforementioned mindset, and you’re wondering how you can stay healthy in a world...

AIDS v. HIV: Whats the difference?

In today’s society, there are more than 1.1 million people who have HIV, and if that is not shocking enough 1 in 7 of them do not even know that they are infected. With so many places, and different ways to get tested for HIV the only reason that someone would not know they are infected these days, is simply because they do not test themselves. Getting tested is just half the battle though, because when it comes to your health Knowledge is power. You’ll need a little more than just knowing whether you are positive or negative for HIV. You can not prevent something when you do not even know what it is! So today I am going to explain a little bit about...

I’ve always been what I like to call a “visionary”, (sounds fancy right?) but in reality I...

Strong And Stressed? Know Your Signs of Depression!

I once seen a quote that said “ I am a strong, independent women, because I have to be.” The black women has always been described as the backbone of the family, the lifeline, the one who keeps it all together with a pretty smile plastered on her face though, internally suffering from all the pain she has endured. Yet, your yawning at noon. How are you making it sis? Probably just barely, at least that’s how I was. I was working, had several side hustles, and going to school full time. I passed out everyday at around 6pm and just couldn’t get most of the things I needed to get done actually done (and all the way, not just starting them)! I know that I was doing a lot but it didn’t make sense to be as tired as I was everyday. There had to be more to it then...
