BGH Bookclub| March Book Review

Hey sis! I hope everything is going well for you, and spring has sprung in your life. One thing that always comes to mind when we think about spring is spring cleaning. Since we’ve started the book club we have learned about how to clean out your mind, when we read the power of now, and this month we focused on cleaning our homes when we read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Let me start off by saying I really like this book. I have done this method myself a couple of times (typically because I didn’t do it right the first time), and even doing it wrong, I always feel so much lighter after I’m done.

Marie’s Method

In the book she talks about how important it is that you only keep things around you that you love. She talks about the power in having a home that is filled with only items you love. Her method is that you should start with one category at a time, clothes is the one she mentions to start with, and gather all your clothes in a huge pile on the floor. She then says to pick up each item one at a time and if it doesn’t bring you joy then discard it. When I do this, and even when I’m shopping now, I tell myself if I question whether to keep it or not, it goes. I like this method, and I have thrown away 10 bags of clothes using this method myself. She claims that if you do this method correctly once you’ll never have to do it again. The next step in her method is finding a place where everything goes. This one is important as well, she talks about how easy it is for clutter to build up when everything doesn’t have its own place. I’ve noticed in my own home that this is true. Things I have a place for rarely need fixing up, it’s always they stuff that i’m just putting away somewhere that end up messing up my apartment.

My thoughts on Her claim

One of this biggest claims she made is that if you do her method the right way once you’ll never have to do it again. I think this is slightly misleading, on its way to being false. If you do it once, then you will definitely have a tidy, home. But as you acquire things, you would still need to regularly discard the things you no longer love. It’s not quite as “one and done” as she makes it seem. Overall though, that’s my only negative point on the book. It was really enlightening to me, and I’m very interested to see how long I can keep things tidy using this new method.

So those are my thoughts on this month’s book, what are your’s? I’d love to hear them just comment down below! Our next book is going to be called Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink, PH.D. Now that spring is here we are getting our summer bodies ready (can I get an amen), and your results come from 80% what you eat and 20% exercise. I’m looking forward to this next book and I hope you are too.

As always, live your best life sis!

XoXo

Nikki
