BEAUTY QUEEN SECRETS: MISS BLACK NEW YORK OPENS UP ABOUT HER INSECURTIES
Back when I was 19, I was a contestant in the Miss USA system; I didn’t realize it then, but now I can say that I was dealing with my own insecurities. I wanted validation.
Cassandre Brissot: The insecurities I dealt with were no different than what most young women deal with like “ Am I pretty enough? I wish this was smaller and this was bigger, Who am I? I think we all have some insecurities but I’m happy to say I’m past that in my life. I’ve changed so much in 6 years. I know who I am striving to be, and I like myself. You’d be surprise ‘what liking who you are’ will do to your self esteem.
This woman I am today is beautiful, not because I have a title that says so, but because I believe I am inside and out. I think being a “beauty queen” comes with a lot of scrutiny. It doesn’t matter how put together you are, some people will always say “she’s not that pretty”, “she only looks good with make up”, etc. I do care about my appearance enough to make sure that I’m well put together, but I also know the prettiest face in the world is only skin deep.
