5 Ways To Relieve Stress | National Stress Awareness Month

Hey sis! I hope that everything in life is going well for you. I’m doing okay but like many of us I have been stressed out lately. Even as I write this I’m urging myself to relax my face so I don’t cause myself a headache. For many of us, stress is one of the most prevalent health risks in our lives. It’s important to learn how to manage your stress, but what I find the hardest is what can help relieve it. So in honor on national stress awareness month, i’m bringing you 5 ways to help relieve stress.

Now, you guys may not know this, but I’m no artist. I can barely color inside the lines. So when I painted a ceramic vase for the first time yesterday, I never knew before that how fun it would be. Before I started I had a minor case of anxiety, I mean I just knew it was going to turn out terrible. However, it actually turned out pretty nice, and the hour that I spent doing it just flew by. I found myself almost in a trancelike state feeling so relaxed, and not worried about anything. I encourage you to just pick up some cheap paints from somewhere for yourself, and you might be surprised how good you can do!

Prioritize / Manage time better

This is a big one, especially for any of my fellow entrepreneurs out there, or my sisters with kids. Running around all day with a million things on your plate can definitely cause you lots of stress. I have been experiencing this personally over the last couple of months. I have somehow gotten myself out of my usual planning routine, and so I have been all over the place as of late running around wondering what tasks i’ve missed. Don’t be like me, get your to-do list filled out, or your calendar blocked and get a peace of mind knowing that you’re right where you need to be at all times

Don’t run from problems

This is another big one, I don’t believe I do this personally, however looking at my dream pattern my subconscious is telling me otherwise. Running from your problems does nothing but makes them bigger and forces you into a corner when its decision making time. Yes you feel better after making the decision, but sometimes it’s not the best decision leaving you with even more stress. Face your problems head on and deal with them in a timely manner, your future self will thank you.

Go to Therapy

I shouldn’t have to explain this one but I will. Sometimes talking about what stresses and worries you, makes you understand the issues better. It can also help you come to a good solution if your having problems. Yes, you can vent to your friends (for free), but you run the risk of competing about who is worse off. A therapist is the best way to go when you need a listening ear, and they can also help you uncover some deeper issues you didn’t know were affecting you as well.

Find out what your coping mechanism is.

So first off, a coping mechanism is something that you do in times of stress. Sometimes we may smoke, drink, or do other things to cope. Knowing what you do to cope, is a great way to deal with stress in a preventative way. Once you know your coping mechanism you can notice when you are doing it and how frequently. That is a good sign that you are beginning to stress out, and you can start handling it then and there, vs waiting until you are faced with a big problem.
