13 Ways to be Healthy this Spooky Season

13 Ways to be Healthy this Spooky Season

Here are 13 Tips to Stay Healthy this Halloween Season:

  1. Exercise. If you are going out, if possible, use this time (Trick or Treating) or not, and get some exercise. Especially if you are with little ones, use this as a time to get some exercise.
  2. Be Sanitary. If you are passing out candy this Halloween, be mindful of germs.  Use hand sanitizer and when you get the change, wash your hands.
  3. Do not overeat. Although Halloween is one day and Halloweekend is 3, the candy sales seem to last forever.  Everything in MODERATION is okay, but remember, portion control is key, especially as it pertains to sugar.
  4. Hydrate yourself. Especially if you choose to indulge in a few alcoholic beverages, hydrate yourself with water. Good H2O.
  5. Eat regular meals before. This will help you not over-indulge with all the left-over candy.
  6. Check the expiration dates on the candy. Yes, we like to think candy lasts forever, but like all food, there comes a time when items expire.
  7. Go for a healthier option of a treat. If you are so surrounded by candy and can’t get rid of it, try to opt for a healthier option.  Go for a healthier, more natural alternative like dried fruit, dark chocolate or an all-natural trail mix.
  8. Buy what you don’t eat. If you must prepare for the neighborhood trick-or-treaters, buy candy you do not like and the odds are, you won’t eat it. If you hate sour candy, get that, if you don’t like gummy snacks, get those.
  9. Be mindful of the workplace candy. Stash healthier snacks in your workspace to keep you from being tempted by the office snacks.
  10. Chew gum for cravings. This will help you when temptation strikes.  Keeping your mind and mouth occupied.
  11. Plan out your treats. Use your candy as a possible “reward”. For example, if you eat clean M-F allow yourself to have 2 fun-sized candy treats for Saturday & Sunday.
  12. If you do overindulge, don’t beat yourself up about it. Try a simple juice cleanse to get rid of the sugar to help you get back on track.
  13. Finally, ENJOY. Don’t feel like you must never eat a chocolate bar again. Have fun, it’s okay.
