10 Women in Black History you’ll love! | Black History Month

Hey my beautiful queens! I hope you are all manifesting amazing things in your life and working hard to accomplish your dreams. As black women we have so much drive  and ambition that helps push us and our entire community forward. So today, in celebration of black history month, I thought it would be a good idea to pay homage to some of these influential women, and bring you 10 women from black history that you will love!

Althea Gibson

If you love Serena Williams then we definitely have to pay homage to the woman help helped pave the way. Ms Gibson was the first black woman to compete in Wimbledon back in 1951. Learn her full story

2. Mary Mahoney

This woman was the first black nurse to be licensed all the way back in 1879. We have been breaking barriers for so long! Learn more about her full story here

3.  Mary Kenner

This beautiful lady was an inventor, and women everywhere have her to thank. She held the patent for maxi pads ( called a sanitary belt at the time) where would we be today without her? See what else she has done

4. Dame Eugenia Charles

She was the first female prime minister in Dominica, leading the charge for 15 years up until 1995. Women leaders are some of the best around, wouldn’t you agree? Check out her full story

5. Leontyne Price

This woman with the beautiful hair is another superstar entertainer of the past. She was one of the first black female entertainers to earn international acclaims for her work. Read her biography here

6. Ibtihaj Muhammad

Black women have our hands in all types of sports and athletic events, and this lovely lady is no different. She is the first muslim woman wearing a hijab to represent the United States in the 2016 fencing competition during the olympics. Read her full bio here

7. Mae C. Jemison

You can tell the accomplishments of this woman from just the picture, but if you can’t, she was the first black woman astronaut. Accomplishments like these are not easy to obtain so putting her on the list was a no brainer. Read her full Biography here

8. Jane Bolin

Another first on our list, is none other than Jane Bolin, she was our first black woman judge in the United States. Paving the way for all of us to work at making our justice system a lot more just. Read her full bio here

9.Patricia Roberts Harris

Another woman creating change in the lives of many of us is this beautiful black queen. Patricia Roberts harris is the first black woman to hold a Cabinet position, serve as U.S. ambassador and head a law school. Her life was an amazing one, read all about it here

10. Alexa Canady

Alexa is more than just a voice for google. This beautiful woman became the first black woman neurosurgeon. Not only are the women on this list touching lives, but are also saving them! Check her out

I hope that this list of the queens that came before us inspires us to continue to push for our dreams and reach new heights as a community. I hope that everyone is celebrating black history month, and making their ancestors proud.
