The Power of Now Book review| BGH Bookclub

It’s been a month since we launched the BGH book club and so now I’m here to bring you my take on it. The book for January was called The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. This book changed my life when I first read it and I hoped it had the same effect on you. To start, I’d like to say that overall it wasn’t huge bank of unknown information, but the way that he positioned it was new and refreshing. We all know that you become what you think about, and many of us (me included) know how to switch from negative draining, crippling thoughts, to happier, more positive thoughts. This takes practice, and dedication on its own, but now we are talking about not having thoughts AT ALL.

Favorite things about the book:

As you can probably tell already that I really love this book and definitely plan on reading it again and again to pick up additional knowledge that I may have missed (because I started thinking about something else ironically.)

  1. One of my favorite things from this book is its format in general. I like the question and answer format it came in. A lot of the questions asked were ones that I was either thinking of or hadn’t thought of at all.
  2. Another thing I liked is how inclusive the book was. Any religious or nonreligious person could read the book and get something from it, even if they are on different spiritual journeys.
  3. I like how he told his story in the beginning of where he was coming from, how he was caught in depression for so many years, and suicidal at some points in his life. It was a story that was really sad but also encouraging to those of us going through things emotionally.

Some things I didn’t like so much:

  1. Although he gave good information, a lot of his answers were long winded and boring. I had the audible version and I found myself having to rewind it so that I could listen to his whole answer without my thoughts taking over and distracting me. (needing more meditation practice I guess!)
  2. His VOICE! Its creepy. If you have the audible version his voice is something you had to get used to
  3. He TALKS SO SLOW! I often fell asleep to the book because he was talking so slow. I ended up speeding up the book so that I had to “actively” listen, and that definitely helped a little.

So thats my surface level view of the book. Don’t forget to join me tonight at 8pm EST on Instagram live (@ChicNaturlNikki)! Join me tonight even if your hadn’t read it because there is definitely something here worth learning about. I’ve got some questions that I want to ask you guys and answer myself, regarding the book and our experiences as well.  I will also be announcing our book for next month during the meeting as well I’ll give you a hint, it’s Becoming (okay that wasn’t a hint, that was me telling you but whatever)!. Bring some wine, and let’s have a good time!

And don’t forget to live your best life sis! See you tonight!

Xoxo

Nikki
