My Top 5 Carb Substitutes!

My Top 5 Carb Substitutes!

I know my body and I know that too many carbs does nothing positive for me. The problem is that so much of what I eat and love to eat has a large amount of carbs. I love rice, bread, pasta, mashed potatoes; you name it I probably love it. If you’re like me and need some help look no further. Here are a few of my favorite carb substitutes!

Veggie Noodles

I told you I love pasta, but at one point I tried to completely give it up because of the carbs. Thank goodness for my sister because she found noodles made entirely from vegetables. It tastes the same and is a lot healthier.

Portobello Mushrooms

I was so nervous about trying this one for the first time, but I ended up loving it! I love mushrooms and I love burgers, but I also love bread. I was always told to just take off the top bun of the burger to cut down on how many carbs I intake. I hated it! If I’m going to eat a burger I want a top and bottom bun. With the portobello mushroom it’s still possible. With this, you use the portobello mushrooms as the bun and enjoy your juicy burger!

Cauliflower Rice

Cauliflower rice is a great carb substitute. Often I make it by mixing it in with eggs and cheese and I love it! I can eat it for breakfast or as a side with my lunch or dinner. Try cauliflower rice and you can come up with fun and tasty recipes to add variety to your dish.

Cucumber Slices

This one takes me back to a simpler time! When I was younger, my mother would give my siblings and I vegetables as snacks instead of junk food. In order to make it more enjoyable for us she’d add a little flavor to it. One snack she’d make us was cucumber slices with a little vinegar and pepper. This snack is a great substitute for chips and crackers and it is so delicious!

Cauliflower Mash

There’s something about mashed potatoes. I don’t know why they are so great but they are. My grandmother knows I’ve changed a lot of the foods I eat and decided to go out in search of cauliflower rice but found cauliflower mash. I was skeptical initially, but it was amazing. It tastes just like mashed potatoes and it may be a good alternative for you!
